My biography of Marianne Moore (Marianne Moore: A Literary Life, 1990) might have been used to give some of the context for Moore’s time at Bryn Mawr and the way this experience was reflected in both her poems and her short stories written during this period. I was disappointed to see that the biography was not listed in the works consulted.

I read the NYT article and was curious to see this digital thesis. I appreciate all of the obvious effort that was invested in creating this project, but am I alone in feeling that my “experience” with Moore’s poetry via this digital presentation was greatly lacking? Scrolling up and down, clicking back and forth – maybe it is the design, or maybe it is the concept. I would have rather experienced Moore’s poetry from the pages of a book (and I don’t mean a Kindle) and any comments I may have wanted to make, I would rather write them in the margins of the page. I am not as old as one may think, but when it comes to books and poetry, I am unabashedly old-fashioned, I guess. All this one-finger touch-screening makes me feel less than, even if I have the whole world of literature at my fingertips thanks to technology. There is not enough life for anyone to explore the whole world of literature, and during what time I have, I guess I’d rather interact with that literature in a timeless way. This digital experience is lacking exactly that – real experience. It’s stale.

Hi, Jen,
Wonderful! I am just starting to read this essay. I was wondering if you could recommend an edition of collected poems for Moore as a starting point to read her work.
Great work. Really love this.
